Scarecrow 7

These are interesting looking ladies. I especially adore the fact that the second lady has packing bubbles in her stockings. I wish I would have thought of that. Cambria this time of year. Go.

Todd's Creations

I have great neighbors. Todd is very creative. Every year he spends hours in his front yard building these amazing Halloween Creations. Last year he set up a Fog Machine the night before Oct 31. This year we can hardly wait to see what he has in his ghostly mind. The crowd will be shocked by his clever spider web in the back yard.

The Voice of Joe Chavira

image

Today I had an unbelievable opportunity to hear the voice and piano of Joe Chavira. He sat down at the piano and played a few songs he wrote. I heard his music 200 feet away. The hair stood up on my arms. When he sits down at a piano and sings, your soul will talk to you.  When he belts out one of his originals, you will be convinced that you are, indeed, alive. He has what I call God given talent. He is a singer, song writer, and a creative marketing genius.

Scarecrow 2

Cambria has spirit. To put these scarecrows together as a town takes lots of effort. I love art towns.
Dig the scarecrow cyclists and yes they do move.

Are You Scared Yet?

Cambria's Scarecrows are being judged. I would have a hard time deciding which one is worthy of the prize. They are unique. It is well worth a trip to the charming art town.

Lorie's Fall Display

My friend Lorie has a knack for fantastic decorating. Her fall design looks so good in her kitchen designed by her talented husband Hamp. Lorie loves all the Holidays and welcomes the seasons into her life.  I will make sure all of my ghosts are in my house tonight.

Terra Cotta Birdcage

image
One of my guilty pleasures is going to Priscilla Woolworth's online store to see what is the latest. I came across these incredible terra cotta birdhouses. You do not have to be in the south of France to enjoy this simple pleasure. Priscilla recommends hanging in autumn so the birds will come back in Spring to nest. She also recommends gluing a branch for the bird to perch. Open your home to wanted guests: starlings, sparrows, wrens, robins, and grey flycatchers. When my sister Anita sees this she will flip her lid.

House on Haunted Hill

image                             image

This  film is about a millionaire who offers a group of people 1,000, 000 dollars to spend the night in a haunted house. Vincent Price plays the eccentric host behind this terrifying gathering. As the night progresses, the guests are trapped inside with ghosts, murderers, and other terrors. I once had the opportunity to meet Vincent Price at the University of Arlington, Texas. I passed it up and I regret this missed opportunity. Do not regret seeing this one before Halloween.

Piecebook

Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers                                                                                             image Piecebook Reloaded Rare Graffiti Drawings 1985-2005 is a way to see up close the piecebooks that street artists used to exchange their books and meet again to pick up their art treasures before piecing aka putting up their street art. It is a treat to see what style the artists were using in their works of art. These books would eventually return to their original owners and it was a way to exchange ideas about the art of the day. If you study street art you find that writers style their signatures using bubble, simple, or puzzle-type letters to make visual art. Some of these journals even had the original mustard stains from that delicious street dog in one of the NY boroughs.

Happy October

My husband calls this time of year card shop time. Nights are shorter and the lamps are on in the house. Day time is about taking out the cameras and shooting images outdoors and inside the house. It is a good time to begin to assemble those fun spooky cards.

Jessica's Beautiful Hair Bows

Jessica is busy creating in the privacy of her home. She makes the most beautiful children's hair bows. The creative details on these stunning art treasures would blow your mind. She has a great intuition for contrasting colors, materials, and child themes. Four bows were sold in fifteen minutes. We love our little ones in beautiful bows.

Advanced Style is a good find. Ari Seth Cohen wrote the book and I am really enjoying the style photos of these older women. There is are some over the top outfits but for some reason some of these folks can pull off wearing them. A fun find for sure.

Who Is Thorton Dial Sr.?

image                 image

image                     image                       image

Thornton Dial Sr., also known as Buck Dial was born in 1928 in Emelle Alabama. He is a self taught artist who did not start making art full time, until his retirement. He grew up in poverty and he and his siblings created toys from discarded objects found in yards in his neighborhood. He creates sculptures and paintings and drawings. He has deep convictions concerning racial, religious, political, and social values which are expressed brilliantly in his work. When asked how he became an artist, he said I do not have a real job, so made a job making art. One quote I love from buck is "Art is strange-looking stuff and most people do not understand art. If everybody understands one another, wouldn't nobody make art."
